A murderer of Limpopo police officers has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Introduction

On Friday, the Limpopo High Court in Thohoyandou handed down a life sentence to Nyadzani Morgan Mavhuso, who killed police officer Warrant Officer Mbulaheni Mulanduli in 2020, according to Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale.

Mogale further explained that Mavhuso, who was 23 years old at the time, was already in custody for rape and kidnapping when he stabbed Officer Mulanduli multiple times in order to escape. Additionally, Mavhuso stole cell keys and took cash from a safe during the incident.

The court sentenced Mavhuso to life imprisonment for murder, 15 years for robbery, 15 for rape, five for kidnapping, three for violation of a protection order, five for escaping from lawful custody and seven for housebreaking.

The sentences will run concurrently with the life sentence.

The court handed down multiple sentences to Mavhuso, including life imprisonment for murder, 15 years each for robbery and rape, five years for kidnapping, three years for violating a protection order, five years for escaping from lawful custody, and seven years for housebreaking. These sentences are to be served concurrently with the life sentence.

Additionally, Mavhuso was deemed unfit to possess or own a firearm.

Hawks spokesperson Mogale mentioned that Major-General Gops Govender, the head of the Hawks in Limpopo, welcomed the court’s decision.
